Prafulla Govinda Baruah, who breathed his last at a private nursing home in Guwahati on Sunday night, had taken over as Editor of The Assam Tribune in 1997
The last rites of veteran Assam journalist and editor of The Assam Tribune, Prafulla Govinda Baruah, was performed with full state honours at the Navagraha Crematorium in Guwahati today (Dec 15) afternoon.
The nonagenarian journalist, a Padma Shri awardee, passed away at a private nursing home in Guwahati on Sunday night following old age-related ailments.
Son of Radha Govinda Baruah, PG Baruah as he was popularly known — assumed charge of Director of the Assam Tribune group of newspapers in 1966 while taking over as Editor of the newspaper in 1997.
His mortal remains were kept at his Chandmari home where family members, relatives, friends and others paid their last tributes.
The remains were then taken to The Assam Tribune office where employees, staff members and other people paid their tributes to the veteran journalist.
The cremation was held at the Nabagraha crematorium amid a large number of family members, relatives and friends, employees of the Tribune group and other people with full State honours.
Assam Government Ministers Ajanta Neog and Pijush Hazarika represented the State Government in the cremation.
