A retired Air Force officer was arrested in Assam for alleged Pakistani links. Police suspect sharing of sensitive information, raising serious national security concerns.
A retired Air Force officer has been arrested in Assam’s Sonitpur district on serious charges related to national security. Police confirmed on December 13 that the former officer is accused of sharing sensitive information with Pakistani intelligence operatives. The arrest has raised fresh concerns about data safety and the misuse of confidential defence information even after retirement.
According to officials, the case revolves around the alleged transfer of confidential documents and sensitive details through social media platforms. Investigators believe the retired Air Force officer remained in contact with individuals linked to Pakistan, which triggered close monitoring before the arrest. Authorities say such actions can pose a major risk to the country’s security framework.
Additional Superintendent of Police Haricharan Bhumij said that early investigation suggests the accused had electronically shared sensitive material. During the arrest, police seized the officer’s laptop and mobile phone, which are now considered key evidence in the case. These devices have been sent for detailed forensic examination.
Officials added that some data from the seized devices appears to have been deleted, which could make the investigation more complex. Despite this, forensic experts are working to recover any missing information to understand how much data may have been shared and over what period.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is still ongoing, and officials are also trying to find out if more people were involved in the alleged information leak. Security agencies remain alert as the case highlights the risks of digital communication misuse by former defence personnel.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken based on evidence and that national security remains the top priority.
