Assam Cricketers also prohibited from engaging in any cricket-related activity, including roles such as coach, umpire or match referee.
The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four cricketers — Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri, with immediate effect, after allegations surfaced linking them to corrupt practices related to the game.
An FIR has been lodged at the Crime Branch in Guwahati against the four players on Friday, marking a serious escalation in the matter. All four have represented Assam at different levels and are accused of attempting to influence and instigate members of the current Assam squad that participated in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, held in Lucknow.
Following the allegations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an enquiry. As per reports, the ACA said there was prima facie evidence suggesting the involvement of the players in serious misconduct that could undermine the integrity of the sport.
“Prima facie, there appears to be involvement of the aforementioned four players in serious misconduct, affecting the integrity of the sports,” the ACA said in an official statement. The association added that the decision to suspend the players was taken to prevent any further deterioration of the situation while investigations continue.
During the suspension period, the players are barred from participating in any state-level tournament or match conducted by the ACA, its district units or affiliated clubs. They are also prohibited from engaging in any cricket-related activity, including roles such as coach, umpire or match referee.
The suspension will remain in force until the investigation concludes or until further orders are issued. The ACA has also instructed all district associations to strictly enforce the directive and inform clubs and cricket academies under their jurisdiction.
