Arunachal: Class I Student Dies in Massive Fire at School Hostel
Tiny dreams, bright future, all reduced to smoke and ash. A Class I student’s life was tragically cut short in a massive fire at the hostel of a school in Arunachal Pradesh‘s Taktsang, in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
The deceased student has been identified as Choine Tsomu (6), daughter of Tenzin Yeton and Yeshi Wange of Shocktsan village, under the Jemeithang Circle.
The fire broke out at the hostel of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya at around 12:20 AM.
As the fire broke out, Class VIII student Dorjee Tsomu and hostel warden Nima Lhamu rescued several children who were asleep at the time, but despite their efforts, Choine Tsomu could not be saved due to the intensity of the fire.
On being alerted, personnel from the nearby Indian Army unit, along with villagers, school staff, and the hostel authorities, rushed to the spot immediately and tried to douse the flames using water and fire extinguishers, but the blaze caused significant damage to the hostel property.
Later, the body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination.
DC Tawang, Namgyal Angmo, Superintendent of Police Dr. D.W. Thongon, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lungla Tashi Dhondup, DDMO Genden Tsomu, and DDSE Tawang Hridar Phuntsok visited the site in the morning and met the family of the deceased.
As per inputs, an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze.
A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact circumstances of the fire, and a district-wide safety audit of all residential schools and hostels has been mandated.
