Instagram Your Algorithm feature lets users control what they see on Reels by choosing their favourite topics. This update lets people choose topics they want more or less of, giving better control of their feed.
Instagram has introduced a new feature called “Your Algorithm”, and it is designed to give users more power over what they see on the Reels tab. This update is especially useful for people who feel their feed shows too many random videos that they never asked for. Now, instead of scrolling through unwanted content, users can directly choose the topics they like and even reduce the topics they do not want to watch much.
According to Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, users will find the new “Your Algorithm” tab on the top right of the Reels page. When they open it, they will see a short summary showing the topics Instagram believes they are interested in. These topics are identified using users’ recent activity. Mosseri explained that these summaries will be AI-generated based on what the user has been watching or searching for on the platform.
The topics may include areas like Painting, GRWM, Chess or Horror Movies. This means a user can easily increase the videos they want to see more of or reduce the ones they are no longer interested in. Instagram Your Algorithm also gives people an option to share their interest summary with their followers, which can help creators understand what their audience enjoys watching.
The feature is first being rolled out in the United States from today. Instagram has confirmed that the “Your Algorithm” tool will soon be expanded to more countries across the world. A month ago, reports had already mentioned that Instagram was testing this feature. Mosseri also added that the same kind of control will later come to the Explore section, so users can shape their entire experience on Instagram more freely.
