Arunachal Pradesh road mishap: The dead construction workers hailed from Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia
Twenty-one workers from Assam have been reported dead after a truck carrying 22 people from Tinsukia fell off a cliff and into a deep gorge on the Hayuliang-Chaglagam Road in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The accident, details of which has been very sketchy, reportedly took place at Lailang Basti between Mithungna and Mailang Basti in Hayuliang in Anjaw district of the neighbouring State on Saturday.
The truck fell at least 1000 feet down, killing all but one of them.
Thirteen bodies, reports said, have been recovered so far.
The workers had gone from Gelapukhuri Tea Estate in Tinsukia to Hayuliang, Arunachal Pradesh for construction work when the truck fell from the hilly road and into a deep gorge.
The 19 labourers believed to have died in the accident have been identified as Budheswar Deep, Rahul Kumar, Samir Deep, Joon Kumar, Pankaj Manki, Ajay Manki, Bijay Kumar, Abhay Bhumij, Rohit Manki, Birendra Kumar, Agar Tanti, Dhiren Chetia, Rajani Naag, Deep Gowala, Ramchabak Sonar, Sonatan Naag, Sanjay Kumar, Karan Kumar and Jonas Munda.
A video available with News Live shows an injured person — his face covered with blood — claiming that they were going for concrete slabbing work in Hayuliang when they meet with an accident.
Another person, who was using the injured person’s statement in the video, said that the accident took place at Lailang Basti between Mithungna and Mailang Basti in Hayuliang while the injured person, he further said, was found yesterday.
