Goa nightclub fire case moves fast as Luthra brothers are detained in Thailand and India starts the deportation process.
The Goa nightclub fire case has taken a major turn after the two Luthra brothers, linked to the tragic incident, were reportedly detained in Thailand. The fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora had claimed 25 lives, leaving families in deep shock and raising big questions about safety at entertainment venues in Goa.
Officials confirmed that the deportation process of Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra has already started. The brothers had left India shortly after the December 6 blaze. Investigators later found that they booked their flight tickets to Thailand at 1:17 am on December 7, a time when police and firefighters were still struggling to control the massive fire and save people trapped inside the nightclub.
The Goa government has asked the Ministry of External Affairs to cancel the passports of both brothers, as an Interpol Blue Corner notice is already active. This notice helps different countries share information and locate people connected to investigations.
Earlier, a New Delhi court refused to grant the brothers temporary protection from arrest. Their lawyers claimed the brothers did not run away and were only on a business trip. They also argued that the Luthras were licensees, not owners, and that the daily operations of the nightclub were handled by the staff.
Meanwhile, Goa Police have arrested five staff members and managers of the nightclub. They are being questioned about the events leading to the fire, which spread quickly and caused panic among people inside the building. The venue is located around 25 km from Panaji, and emergency teams faced a tough battle to control the flames.
Authorities from India and Thailand are now coordinating closely to bring the Luthra brothers back to face the investigation. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the inquiry report into the Goa nightclub fire tragedy will be ready in eight days. He also mentioned that the government has started giving compensation to the families of the victims and has ordered strict safety checks across entertainment places in the state.
This incident has once again highlighted the need for stronger safety rules and responsibility among nightclub owners. Families and citizens across the country are hoping for a fair investigation and strict action so that such a tragedy does not happen again.
