Sonu Nigam is set to kick off his ‘Deewana Tera’ tour on December 14 in Guwahati, marking his first-ever solo concert in the city
The Indian music fraternity continues to mourn the passing of Assam’s beloved icon Zubeen Garg, whose sudden demise in September left a profound void in the region’s cultural landscape. As tributes pour in from across the country, one of Indian music’s greatest voices, Sonu Nigam, is preparing to honour his late friend in a deeply personal way.
Nigam is set to kick off his ‘Deewana Tera’ tour on December 14 in Guwahati, marking his first-ever solo concert in the city. The event will take place at The Greenwood Resort, and the singer has announced that the show will include a special tribute to Zubeen.
A Personal Decision Rooted in Emotion
Sharing the tour announcement on Instagram with a striking promotional poster, Nigam wrote:
“Dec 14. A night in Guwahati will be remembered forever. Sonu Nigam live for Deewana Tera!”
In an accompanying press note, he revealed that choosing Guwahati as the tour’s opening venue was not just strategic, but emotional.
He said the city symbolizes his long-standing bond with Zubeen Garg, adding that the news of the singer’s death “broke him.”
“Watching the people of Assam honour Zubeen left me deeply moved,” Nigam said. “I’ve never seen such pure love and respect. Assam is a place I would choose to be born in again.”
Tour to Cover Multiple Indian Cities
After Guwahati, the ‘Deewana Tera’ tour will move to Indore, Jaipur, and Lucknow, with additional concerts planned across the country. Earlier, Nigam had already announced a larger all-India tour titled ‘Satrangi Re’, celebrating his 52nd birthday. That tour will span major cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Shillong, and Delhi NCR.
Global Artists Join in Remembering Zubeen
Zubeen Garg’s influence continues to resonate far beyond the Northeast. During a recent performance in Guwahati, international pop-country star Post Malone paused his concert to salute the legendary Assamese singer.
“To be in the home of the great legendary Zubeen tonight… I just hope everyone’s having an amazing day and an amazing night,” he told the crowd.
A City United in Music and Memory
As Guwahati prepares to host Sonu Nigam’s milestone concert, the event has also drawn attention from Assam’s leadership. Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma recently expressed interest in bringing more global artists, such as Shakira to perform in Assam, signalling a growing cultural momentum in the region.
With the ‘Deewana Tera’ tour set to begin where his memories with Zubeen run deepest, Sonu Nigam’s upcoming concert promises not only musical brilliance but also a touching tribute to a cherished friend, and a legend who shaped Assam’s musical heritage.
