Debbarma rejected claims by rival parties, stating that no political force in Tripura can match Tipra Motha’s grassroots strength.
Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Wednesday delivered a strong political message, firmly projecting his party as the only decisive and unchallengeable voice of Tripura’s indigenous people, as BJP Mahila Morcha president and Chamanu Mandal member Mayabati Chakma, along with several senior leaders, formally joined Tipra Motha.
At a joining programme in Agartala, Debbarma personally handed over the party flag to the new entrants, a development widely seen as a clear reflection of the deepening cracks within the BJP–Tipra Motha alliance.
Speaking in an assertive tone, the Tipra Motha supremo categorically rejected claims by rival parties, stating that no political force in Tripura can match Tipra Motha’s grassroots strength.
“Others can make statements, but the truth is Tipra Motha is built from the villages upward. Our base is solid, living, and expanding. On date, no one has the capacity to shake it,” Debbarma said.
He further claimed that the party’s dominance at the grassroots level is an established reality. “The media knows it, I know it, the Chief Minister knows it, and even the Intelligence Bureau knows the ground situation. Tipra Motha is the political reality in tribal Tripura,” he asserted, expressing confidence that the party would increase its tally significantly in the coming elections.
Debbarma’s remarks gain sharp political significance ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections scheduled early next year, and come a day after BJP Janajati Morcha leader and party general secretary Bipin Debbarma publicly claimed that the Tipra Motha-led TTAADC government would become irrelevant by January 2026.
Brushing aside the remark with clear disdain, Debbarma said such statements deserved no importance. “If this had come from the Chief Minister, it might have carried weight. But leaders at lower levels make such claims only to project themselves and secure tickets. These statements are politically motivated and meaningless,” he said.
Making it clear that alliance-level coordination remains intact at the top, Debbarma said he is in regular contact with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and shares a good working relationship with him. “Those speaking below leadership level do not decide reality. Ground truth decides politics,” he added.
On repeated incidents of tension and violence involving alliance partners, despite leadership-level opposition to such acts, Debbarma hinted that internal ambition was the root cause. “Some people believe that without creating noise, controversy, or media bytes, they will not get recognition. That mindset is dangerous. We will not react to provocation,” he said.
Reiterating the ideological core of his party, Debbarma said, “Tipra Motha was not formed for power games. It was formed for a peaceful Tripura, a development-driven model, and the constitutional rights of the Tiprasa people. That agenda will not change.”
Meanwhile, newly inducted leader Mayabati Chakma said that despite spending years in the BJP, she was unable to deliver meaningful work for the people. “I have now joined hands with Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Debbarma. People have faith in Tipra Motha, and the party will win decisively from Chamanu,” she said.
