BTC Executive Meeting decided to propose relieving those officials from their posts soon, said Hagrama Mohilary
After accusing the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary has now alleged that senior officials of Bodoland University and Kokrajhar University were involved in orchestrating the attack on the Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly (BTCLA) on November 29.
Mohilary said that Registrar of Kokrajhar University, Dr. Dimasa Dwibrang Muchahary, along with Bodoland University Registrar Dr. Subung Basumatary and Deputy Registrar Dr. Birfung Narzary, were involved in instigating the violence and would soon be removed from their positions.
“We have heard about their involvement in the attack, so the BTC Executive Meeting decided to propose relieving those officials from their posts soon,” Mohilary said.
The BTC Chief has also demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident to ensure an impartial investigation.
It may be mentioned here that hundreds of Bodoland University students, protesting against the Assam Government’s decision to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to 6 additional communities, marched from the university campus to the BTC Secretariat.
The students reportedly forced their way into the BTCLA premises, breaking gates, damaging doors, and vandalising property inside the building. Police deployed on-site were unable to control the crowd, leading to a complete breakdown of order.
Hagrama Mohilary said that today’s BTC Executive Meeting also discussed ST status for 6 communities, with the BTC Government stating it has no objection as long as the dignity of existing ST groups is protected and that only one ST category (either V or P) should exist within the BTC area.
