State BJP General Secretary Slams Cong MLA Sudip Roy Barman. Tripura BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma called the MLA’s comments unacceptable for a public representative.
Tripura BJP General Secretary Bipin Debbarma has sharply criticised Congress MLA and former minister Sudip Roy Barman for his controversial remarks, warning that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Tripura would be beaten up if they attempted to delete genuine voters’ names or insert fake ones during the ongoing special revision of electoral rolls.
Debbarma called the MLA’s comments unacceptable for a public representative.
“I strongly condemn that a public representative is provoking people and threatening to thrash BLOs. If any BLO does not work properly in the assembly, the Election Commission will look into the matter. The law department is where you can file a complaint. But the way you threatened them, the public will not accept you,” said Debbarma.
What Did Sudip Roy Barman Say?
Speaking at a Congress event, Roy Barman accused the BJP of influencing BLOs and election officials both in Tripura and other states to remove valid Opposition voters from the rolls and add fake or duplicate names in favour of the ruling party.
He warned that such tactics, which he claimed were witnessed in states like Bihar, must not be allowed in Tripura.
In a direct warning to BLOs, Roy Barman said, “I am telling the BLOs in Tripura in clear language that this is not just a threat. Tripura is a small state. Everyone knows everyone. It is very difficult to do duplication here. If you attempt to delete names of genuine voters or include fake names during SIR under the pressure of BJP, you will be beaten up, and you will also lose your job. So BLOs, be very alert.”
The Congress MLA also said that Congress workers will keep a close eye on the voter list. “We want a clean voter list. We do not want any dead names or duplicate names. We want a clear, transparent voter list,” he added.
