Assam Gearing Up to Host Global Music Sensation ‘Shakira’. Speaking to the media, Dr Sarma revealed that Assam’s growing appetite for global music is pushing the government to dream bigger.
Guwahati is buzzing with global energy, and it’s not just because Post Malone is set to electrify the crowds at Khanapara. In a move that signals Assam’s bold cultural ambitions, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the State Government is now planning to invite none other than international pop superstar Shakira for a future musical concert.
Speaking to the media today, Dr Sarma revealed that Assam’s growing appetite for global music is pushing the government to dream bigger. “After Post Malone, we are trying to bring Shakira to Assam,” he said. He further shared that alongside Guwahati, towns such as Dibrugarh and Silchar have expressed keen interest in hosting similar concerts featuring top international artists.
The Chief Minister highlighted that these efforts form part of a larger vision to position Guwahati as a premier destination for world-class musical events.
“We are trying to project Guwahati as a destination for musical concerts, and as part of our efforts, the Post Malone concert is taking place today. I believe our efforts will add a new dimension since it is for the first time that such a concert by a top international singer is happening in Guwahati,” he said.
Responding to criticism from certain quarters, including Opposition parties, Dr Sarma asserted that such resistance only strengthens his determination. He stressed that bringing global concerts to Assam will boost tourism, expand economic opportunities and help build a vibrant concert-driven economy in the State.
