Chinese National Detained after entering Ladakh and Kashmir without permission, triggering a security alert.
The case of a Chinese National Detained in Jammu and Kashmir has raised serious security concerns among agencies in the region. The man, identified as Hu Congtai, was caught after unusual online activity was intercepted by the Army.
This alert pushed security teams to track his movements closely and question how he managed to enter sensitive areas without any permission.
Officials said Hu arrived in Delhi on November 19 on a tourist visa. He was allowed to visit only popular Buddhist religious sites across Indian cities.
But he used his appearance to blend in and boarded a flight to Leh the very next day. He even avoided registering at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office at the airport, which he was required to do by law.
After reaching Leh, Hu travelled across the Zanskar region for three days. He visited key locations in the Himalayan area before flying to Srinagar on December 1.
Officials said that his phone search history showed he was checking information on CRPF deployment in the valley. This discovery made the agencies even more suspicious about his intentions.
Investigators found that he had also obtained an Indian SIM card from the open market without any proper paperwork. During his stay in Srinagar, he lived in an unregistered guest house and visited a Buddhist site at Harwan.
This spot had seen an encounter last year in which a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist was killed. His travel record also showed a visit to the Awantipur ruins in South Kashmir, located close to a major Army base.
Officials said his searches included topics like Article 370 and movement of security forces. They believe that such interest in sensitive subjects cannot be ignored at a time when the region is highly protected.
Hu told officials that he had studied Physics at Boston University and loves travelling. His passport showed visits to the U.S., New Zealand, Brazil, Fiji and Hong Kong.
But agencies said he violated visa rules by entering Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir without permission. For now, he is being questioned by multiple agencies, and he is likely to be deported soon as per officials
