According to preliminary information, the minors were allegedly injured while attempting to carry out illegal activities near Bangladesh Border
Two minors from the Putia border area in Sepahijala district were injured on Saturday in what is suspected to be firing by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, according to health officials at the Bishalgarh Subdivision Hospital.
Dr. Arijit Sinha, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO), confirmed that the children were brought to the hospital separately with multiple injuries on their bodies and heads. “What has been known so far is that they were most likely hit by BSF firing,” he said, adding that the wounds resembled impact marks caused by rubber bullets. While both children were reported to be in stable condition, they were referred to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital for advanced care due to the seriousness of their injuries.
According to preliminary information, the minors were allegedly injured while attempting to carry out illegal activities near Bangladesh border. However, no official communication or clarification has been issued by the BSF regarding the incident.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, more than 95 percent of which is fenced and guarded by around 18 BSF battalions. Despite heightened vigilance and a notable decline in cross-border crimes in recent years, smuggling and other illicit activities remain persistent challenges along the frontier.
Authorities are yet to release further details on the circumstances leading to the firing, and an official inquiry is expected.
