BJP MLA from Khurai constituency, from Manipur, Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, has urged the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to regulate and rationalise airfares on the Imphal–Guwahati sector.
In a letter addressed to Samir Kumar Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Susindro Meitei said that ticket prices should be kept below Rs 7,000 during normal travel periods to ensure affordability for the people of Manipur.
“I humbly request your kind consideration to regulate and rationalize the airfare for the Imphal–Guwahati sector, ensuring that ticket pricing remains affordable and preferably below Rs 7,000, particularly during normal travel periods,” the MLA wrote in the letter.
Thanking the Ministry for the recent approval of an additional Imphal–Guwahati–Delhi flight at 17:25 PM, along with the expansion of aircraft seating capacity from 180 to 232 seats, the MLA highlighted that the initiative will greatly benefit the students, patients, and frequent travellers, especially during peak academic, medical, and tourism seasons.
He emphasised that maintaining a reasonable fare cap would not only ease the financial strain on passengers but also encourage greater regional mobility in line with the Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) initiative.
