Manipur Authorities Set Up State- and District-Level Panels to Speed Up Rehabilitation of IDPs
To accelerate the rehabilitation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the Manipur authorities have constituted state-level and district-level committees with immediate effect on Monday.
According to the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur, the move signals the government’s renewed commitment to a coordinated, people-centric approach aimed at restoring stability and supporting thousands of displaced families.
The state-level committee, headed by the Chief Secretary and including the Commissioners of Finance, Home, and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, with the Special or Additional Secretary (Home) acting as convener, will provide overall strategic guidance and policy direction.
The committee is tasked with ensuring cohesive decision-making, promoting effective inter-departmental coordination, and addressing any structural or administrative obstacles that could hinder the progress of rehabilitation and resettlement initiatives for IDPs across Manipur.
The district-level committees under the leadership of the respective Deputy Commissioners, with the Additional Deputy Commissioner serving as convener will serve as the primary on-ground mechanism for implementation.
These committees are responsible for coordinating field-level operations, ensuring the smooth execution of rehabilitation measures, and providing timely feedback to support swift decision-making at the state level.
This structured intervention is expected to streamline processes and manage all rehabilitation and resettlement activities for IDPs and address administrative or logistical bottlenecks to guarantee the efficient and prompt delivery of assistance to affected families.
The development came amid IDPs, and the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi) began a month-long sit-in protest demanding resettlement, urging the Governor and Chief Secretary to honour the government’s commitment to complete the process by December.
