Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s coalition National People’s Power (NPP) won a landslide victory in snap parliamentary polls, results indicated today.
The NPP won at least 123 seats in the 225-member assembly and is said to be on track to win many more.
Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa’s party could win only 18 per cent of the votes polled.
Dissanayake, the 55-year-old son of a labourer, had earlier in September swept the presidential elections on a promise to combat graft.
