Maya Tata, the 34-year-old niece of business icon Ratan Tata, is being seen as a potential successor to the Tata empire, ready to carry forward her family’s legacy. Maya is the daughter of Noel Tata, Ratan Tata’s half-brother, and Aloo Mistry, whose family ties to the Tatas run deep.
According to reports from The Economic Times and DNA, she is also connected to the late Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of the Tata Group, through her mother Aloo, who is Cyrus’s sister. Additionally, Maya’s aunt, Rohiqa Mistry Cyrus Mistry’s widow is among India’s wealthiest women, with a net worth of Rs 56,000 crore.
Maya, along with her siblings Leah and Neville, serves on the board of the Tata Medical Centre Trust, a significant arm of the Tata Group. Despite being the youngest of the three, Maya has made rapid progress in her career.
Educated at the University of Warwick and Bayes Business School in the UK, Maya started her professional journey with the Tata Opportunities Fund, a leading private equity fund under Tata Capital. She later moved to Tata Digital, where she played a key role in launching the Tata Neu app.
Currently, Maya is one of six board members managing the Tata Medical Centre Trust, which oversees a cancer hospital in Kolkata, inaugurated by Ratan Tata in 2011. With her extensive experience in portfolio management and investor relations, she continues to solidify her role in the Tata Group, setting the stage for the next chapter in the family’s business legacy.
